Pro-am-celebrity golf tournament raises funds for charities

Michael Jordan fundraiser proves a hit for children’s charities and other good causes...

The Michael Jordan Celebrity Invitational at Shadow Creek Golf Course, Nevada, proved a success with winning celebs each taking home 20,000 dollars to donate to their chosen charities, the charity entertainment event raising thousands more dollars for worthwhile causes...

Ken Griffey Jr and Winky Wright led the winning teams at the Las Vegas celebrity-amateur competition.

Sporting highlights included Griffey Jr managing a 19-under par 53 in the first round while Wright's team shot an astonishing 22-under par 50.

Griffey Jr's team tied even with host Michael Jordan's team but eventually earned the win via a tiebreaker...

Aaron Rodgers reportedly drove one of the best shots of the tournament on the Shadow Creek course's first hole...

Other highlights included charity beneficiary Make-A-Wish America helping a wish come true for a Michael Jordan fan, Lucas.

The fan had his wish granted to meet Make-A-Wish ambassador and NBA legend Jordan at the fundraiser...

Proceeds from the charity tournament will benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation, as well as charities UC San Diego Nevada Cancer Institute, James R Jordan Foundation and Opportunity Village.

The NBA's Charlotte Bobcats charity org, Cats Care, involved in children's educational projects and sport and fitness community programmes is another beneficiary of the event...

Since its launch the celebrity golf fundraiser has raised more than six million dollars for charity.

The 11th Jordan fundraiser from March 29 to April 1 involved a wide number of celebrity and sports participants including NFL star Aaron Rodgers and comedy star Joel McHale as well as Michael Jordan himself, NE-YO, Marcus Allen, Roger Clemens, Vince Coleman, Julius Erving, Angie Everhart, Joey Fatone, Sugar Ray Leonard and others...
